Who is the Mole?

Getting under the skin of Orkney

Unsurprisingly perhaps, the Orkney Mole is a blog about Orkney – predominantly from the inside. It originates from the extended annual visit to Orkney by Nigel and Tish Jennings during 2016. Whereas we have visited Orkney each year since 2012 for an annual holiday of 2-3 weeks, in 2016 we decided to take advantage of Tish leaving her job and take an Orcadian sabbatical, or what Tish considers a ‘Gap Half-Year’. Hearing of our plans several friends asked, “Will you be doing a blog?”, and as a fairly active social media poster I needed no further encouragement. For the sake of Tish’s professional reputation I should declare from the outset that my views and opinions tend to be the more outspoken and radical; therefore unless expressly indicated otherwise, all content here should be attributed to me, Nigel Jennings.

In addition to news of our perambulations it is my aim to provide broad content about the diverse aspects of life in Orkney that I hope will appeal to a wide readership. If you enjoy the writing please consider following the blog in order to receive email notification action of new content.

I do not expect this blog to cease after our 2016 visit to Orkney. Indeed it is likely also to draw upon experiences from our previous visits, and let’s hope that living in Orkney for over three months does not exhaust our desire to return again.
